My Yaesu FT-897D covered from the heat of the sun. The radio had already gotten hot to the touch because of it's color and the sun's heat. It was 86 degree out in the sun. Being black does not help any radio reflect heat, it does the opposite. So I covered the radio. It was hard to see the display with or without this cover.
